The Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund (RSCRCF) supports the Cancer Community in Minnesota by funding research, prevention, treatment and other programs relating to its cancer community. This past year, we were very proud to grant over $1.1 million. These funds went toward various research projects at the University of MN and Mayo Clinic including multiple myeloma, prostate cancer, lung cancer, glioblastoma, ovarian cancer, breast cancer to name a few.  We also funded programs in the cancer community which included Warrior Packs to help cancer patients in the hospital during treatment, daily meals to families of cancer patients in respite care, and breast cancer awareness and education to underserved communities.

One of our events we host every year is the Rush Creek Golf Club/Randy Shaver Celebrity Golf Classic which began in 1995, raising $27,000. It has now grown into one of the most successful charitable golf tournaments in the state, raising more than $13 million to date. With growing support and contributions from so many, the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund was formed in 2003 to ensure that all of the money raised through the golf event and other endeavors would be used to fund research and cancer-related projects locally in addition to a variety of other worthy causes each year.

Randy Shaver was with KARE-11 Television (NBC Affiliate) since 1994 as the Sports Director and currently is the Evening Anchor. While his focus has always been on cancer research and the Minnesota cancer community, Randy’s fight became intensely personal when he himself became a patient shortly after his 1998 tournament. Diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin’s Disease and 20 years later Prostate Cancer, Randy’s treatment and subsequent remission have understandably made him even more passionate than ever about finding a cure.
